On August 18 1940, in Montevideo, the Villa Española Boxing Club was founded. Ten years later a football section was added to the club, which race under the name of Centenario Juniors. In 1952 it changed its name to Club Social y Deportivo Villa Española.

From this club  was Alfredo Evangelista, European heavyweight champion who played the world championship heavyweight Muhammad Ali 1977 against losing on points in 15 rounds and against Larry Holmes, losing K.O in the eighth assault in 1978 emerged.

In 2001 Villa Española won the Second Division championship. He has divided his professional football life between first and second division.

In 2016, Coach Jorge Casanova an his team achieved a historic promotion to the First Division of Uruguay, several years after competing in the second and third category.
